Faith, Freedom, & Public Schools - addressing the Bible and Christianity without mixing church and state

8:30 a.m. Doors open for light breakfast

9:00 a.m. - 12:30 Online Presentation

FULL AGENDA

Classroom teachers will receive a Certificate of Completion for 3.5 hours.

This is a pre-recorded online presentation of our professional development for public school educators and school leaders hosted by First Baptist Church in Battle Mountain. This is not about “education theory.” You’ll learn practical ways to appropriately and lawfully include teaching about the Bible and Christianity as it relates to history, culture, and values across the curriculum.

You’ll also receive the latest updates on federal and state religious liberty issues affecting students and teachers. Learn how the idea of “separation of Church and State” applies and doesn’t apply to your classroom as well as:

  • Your state academic standards expect students to learn about the Bible and Christianity

  • Courts support teaching students about the Bible and Christianity -- including religious aspects of holidays

  • The U.S. Department of Education has clarified students’ religious liberties (and you can teach about them!)

Tickets: $25 for educators

Location: First Baptist Church, Weaver & E. Seventh Street, Battle Mountain, NV

Eric Buehrer, founder & president of Gateways to Better Education

Eric was a public school teacher before founding Gateways to Better Education. He is a published author and nationally-recognized authority on the subject of religion and public education. His advocacy for clarity on religious freedom in public schools led to the 2020 updated release of the U.S. Department of Education’s “Guidance on Constitutionally Protected Prayer and Religious Expression in Public Elementary and Secondary Schools.

In today’s often-contentious climate, his approach is unique as it emphasizes camaraderie, not conflict; and reason, not rage. Eric and his wife, Kim, have three grown, public-school-educated daughters and a poodle.
