7/28/25 - Ask for Open Doors

The Apostle Paul asked the Colossian church to “Continue earnestly in prayer…that God would open to us a door...” An open door implies an opening to somewhere. When it comes to your children’s public school, an open door may involve giving to the teacher or principal information about students’ freedom of religious expression. This leads to a “place” of greater freedom for students.

A wonderful prayer to help you navigate the open doors of your schools is this: “Lord, help me align my desires with Yours for my public school. Show me what You are doing in the lives of people around me and guide me to join You in your work to bless them and help them move from fear to freedom.”

7/29/25 - Praying for Teachers

We are not always aware of God’s plans for people with whom we come in contact in our schools. Asking God to give you opportunities to be a light for others is so important. Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 3:9, “For we are God’s fellow workers....”  and Galatians 5:25 tells us to “keep in step with the Spirit.”

When you pray, ask the Lord what He is doing in the lives of those around you. That includes the educators who will be teaching your children this year.

As you pray, think about what you know of the person, conversations you have had, and situations that person is in. You never know where God will use you.

7/30/25 - Walking with God in School

This school year, God is at work in your student’s school and He wants you to walk with Him. What came to mind when you heard that the Ruler of the universe wants you to walk with Him to help public schools become more faith-friendly? God is about the business of setting people free in the world and that includes your schools.

Misinformation holds people captive regarding the so-called “separation of church and state.” This breeds fear and ultimately prevents students from gaining an appropriate academic appreciation for the Bible and Christianity.

At Gateways to Better Education, we equip ordinary people to do extra-ordinary things in the public schools! Will you become an advocate who walks with God in your schools? For help, visit GoGateways.org/freetospeak.

7/31/25 - Cultivating your Garden in School

Have you ever thought of your children’s schools like your own garden that you can take care of? Nothing much grows on a battlefield and that’s how we often think of our schools. But this school year try planting seeds of love and truth in your schools.

Most educators have only heard what cannot be done in schools regarding religion. They may think it is inappropriate or even illegal to mention the Bible or teach about Christianity.

Even if they know it is permissible, they may not be aware of your own state’s academic standards that reference Christianity. That’s a seed of truth that you can plant this year. Our team has researched your state’s academic standards and documented where Christianity not only can be taught, but in some cases, is expected to be taught.

8/1/25 - Critical Thinking

You can help your children become critical thinkers while in school. Critical thinking means analyzing and evaluating ideas. Your children don’t need to just read their textbooks or watch a class video and believe everything they are told. While reading or listening, they can ask themselves questions like, Is that all there is to the story? What is being left out? What is the textbook or video trying to get me to believe? Are there other ways of looking at this issue? What have Christians said about this topic?

A textbook or lesson that only looks at a subject as if there are no spiritual beliefs related to it will often miss important parts of a well-rounded education.
